I had problems understanding the difference as well. Centerless grinding does not hold the piece to be ground in a chuck. It “floats” among a regulating wheel and the grinding wheel, and is supported by a workblade. Cylindrical grinding holds the piece to be ground in a chuck, and the grinding wheel is fed across it really is length. It is challenging to visualize the distinction…….. but here is a site that explains it fairly clearly…….
