I really like coffee. I utilised to have three espresso machines as nicely as a stovetop model when I lived in New York. The high-stress pump machines are ideal if you want to get a machine. And I grind my beans fresh. The problems is, who has the time to do all that? Positive I would enjoy to get those giant robots which do everything but spending US9+ on a coffee maker is somewhat out of my league.
In Hong Kong, I don’t see many espresso machines for sale. As an alternative, supermarkets have rows and rows of immediate coffee mixes. And I was shocked how good they are. MUJI’s president Masaaki KANAI’s philosophy echoes my life style. I am opinionated when offered the choice, but great adequate is excellent enough for me.
The hidden advantage of instant coffee is mix+match. I now have a bunch of different coffee and tea selection in powder type, and I have become a “mixologist” of instant 鴛鴦 (note1) yuan yang (note2), enabling me to adjust what I want to have on the fly with no brewing anything from scratch.
